Split testing is a powerful tool that allows you to compare different versions of a product page against each other to understand what makes the perfect product.
How it works
With the Split Tests add-on, you can show different versions of one product to your visitors and make informed decisions based on the built-in statistics.
When a split test is launched, your traffic is randomly spread over the different versions of your product pages and distributed evenly among users. For example, traffic is split 50/50 if you test 2 products against each other (i.e. 50% of users will see your original product, 50% will land on its variant). If you compare 4 products, each variant will get 25% of traffic.

There are two products in the test. You will be redirected either to Genuine Leather Watch With Copper Face or to Premium Genuine Leather Watch With Copper Face.
Before launching a test
Choose an item you’d like to test and decide what product ideas you’re going to try out (title / images / price / discount / description / reviews / value proposition).
Create a duplicate of this product.
Make the changes. Product links should not be the same. Make sure to remove 'copy' from product duplicate link.
Publish the duplicate. Your customers won’t see it on other pages of your website.
How to set up the Split Tests add-on
To install the add-on, go to your WordPress dashboard → Plugins → Add New.
Upload the zip file. Click Install Now.
Press the Active Plugin button to continue.
Activate your license key.
Go to the Dashboard tab. To get started, click Create New Test.
In the datepicker, choose a start date for your test. The test will start automatically when the day you’ve selected comes.
Add a test name This name is for internal use only, so you can easily distinguish tests in your dashboard in case you have a few of them. Don’t worry - your customers won’t see it.
Add a test description. This might be your test hypothesis or any notes that can be useful for you in the future.
Decide what link you’d like to use as your Test URL. Visitors who land on this URL will be divided between the products you’re testing. You have two options available:
- Use product variant #1 link as your Test URL. Visitors to this link will either stay on this product page or will be redirected to its variant. Add a Test URL.
- Create a new link you’ll drive traffic to. It can be anything that comes to your mind. Make sure this URL gives visitors a good understanding of what they can expect to see on the page.
In the right-hand column, add products you’d like to test against each other.
In a pop-up window, use the plus icon to select products you want to test.
Hover over a variant and click the pencil icon to change its name. This name might come in handy in case you want to test product description while keeping the same images, titles, and prices. Variant names are for your reference only.
You can add an unlimited number of product variants. However, keep in mind that the more products you compare, the more time it takes to get conclusive test results.
Now you can start your test. Turn on the Enable test option. Click Save Settings.
How to generate reports
To be able to track products’ performance and see the most important ecommerce metrics right in the add-on settings, you need to install the GA Enhanced Ecommerce add-on created by AliDropship.

In GA Enhanced Ecommerce, add your Google Analytics Tracking ID. Save changes and go back to the Split Test add-on → Reports.
AliDropship fetches reports from your Google Analytics. To connect your account, get your access code.
First, choose the Google account you've set up your Google Analytics with.
The Split Tests add-on is not on the list of the official Google apps. Click the Advanced link to see more options.
Go to Split Tests Add-on.
Allow the Split Tests add-on to view your GA data. This is the data you’ll find in the Reports tab.
Confirm your choices.
Copy your access code and go back to the add-on settings.
Paste the access code into the corresponding field. Click Next to continue.
In the dropdown menu, select the View your website is connected to.
In the Reports tab, you’ll find a report for each test. Use the datepickers to check data for a certain period of time. Set start date and end date.
Click the Generate Report button to see products’ performance. Google Analytics updates data every hour. This means that if someone buys from your store, you’ll need to wait for one hour for GA to show this conversion in the report.
You can keep the best-selling product and remove the low-performer.
If you want to connect another Google Analytics account, click the Use Another Account button.
